University of Georgia Engagement Shoot- Cody and Katie

Katie and Cody. You really don't meet couples like them everyday, that make you smile the E-N-T-I-R-E photo shoot. Their engagement session took place on North Campus, a gorgeous part of the University of Georgia with fountains, tall oak trees, and classical architecture.

I met Katie in high school as we were both involved in the drama program and cast in the play Grease together.

Cody and Katie met in college at UGA. Cody's dry sense of humor makes everyone at ease; Katie lights up when he looks at her.

They fell in love and are tying the knot at Park Tavern in Piedmont Park on September 24, 2010.

I cannot wait to photograph their wedding in Atlanta!

Please leave messages for Katie and Cody!

Its Friday. Again. Congratulations Courtney! Your photo, "Waiting at the Window", won the "Best of the Week" Photo contest. I have been editing your photos all week from your beautiful wedding, and I can't wait to start putting together your wedding album.

Ruthie here...

Just wanted to introduce myself to all of Sarah's blog subscribers. My name is Ruthie and Sarah recently hired me as her Marketing Director. As many of you are aware, Sarah sold 2,000 photo shoots in about 8 hours back in July. I was driving back from Nashville and called her to see a.) if she was surviving b.) if she needed any help. Three days later, I landed myself a job!

She asked me to post today from my perspective...

Working with Sarah has been SO MUCH FUN. The best part? Getting your emails about how her skills have created memories that will last a lifetime.  I never considered photography in this light, but my thoughts have changed after seeing how talented she is and how many people's lives she blesses.

An additional perk to my job is I absolutely love children (hope to have 5 of my own one day) and she takes so many adorable shots of families.

Here are a few of my favorites!

Sarah, am I allowed to advertise for babysitting on here? :)

Precious, precious little girl. My mom used to always make me wear a HUGE bow with my hair parted on the side with a matching dress (usually).
"Life is not about waiting for the storms to pass. Its about learning to dance in the rain." Some of the best photos come from just playing in the rain. I know my friend had an outdoor wedding...it rained after 8 weeks of no rain in Georgia...but the best pictures came from the shots under the umbrella:)

I love the pink tutus! Can't you just see them being best friends when they get older?

I remember feeling just like he looks when my mom used to make us take Christmas card photos! "Are we done yet???" I would ask over and over.

Bad Hair Days, Pretty Hair, and Mondays

If you haven't voted in our "Best of the Week" photo contest, click here to vote today!

Monday morning. Even though I work most weekends, Monday mornings are still Monday mornings to me. Like most of you, I heard my alarm go off this morning and wished the clock would slow down so I couch catch some more zzz's.

Check list:
Camera
Extra Batteries
Strong Coffee
Blackberry
Keys

I quickly threw myself together this morning, 'to do' lists running through my head, and then I noticed: BAD HAIR DAY.  Do bad hair days always come on Mondays?

Look at Laura's dark, beautiful hair. I shot her and her fiance, Brad, at my new favorite venue in Atlanta. It was fun shooting them and hear their excitement about starting a life together.
Click here to read more about this hidden venue in the heart of Atlanta.

So here's to starting the week right, strong coffee, and people with beautiful hair!

Isn't she precious? Arden has such beautiful blonde hair.
And a blonde-haired baby doll to match!

Introducing Mr. and Mrs. Brad Odom!

Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Brad Odom! Alison and Brad met in college and fell in love. They were married in a small church in Gainesville, Georgia and their reception took place at the Quinlan Arts Center. Their day was perfect in every way, and Alison in her lacy, elegant dress set the tone for the evening. I was privileged to be a part of capturing this couple's memories. Please watch the slideshow for a snapshot of the wedding. You might even find yourself dancing along.

Falling in Love

The Groupon process is still underway and I am surviving...with a special bonus of meeting wonderful people, some of which have never had a professional portrait done before. How special for me to take their first!

I was sitting down today (well, speeding across town to get to my next shoot) thinking of all the different kinds of pictures I take: weddings, family portraits, engagement, boudoir, pregnancy, graduation pictures...

With the exception of graduation pictures, most every picture I take is because two people have fallen in love. Of course with weddings and engagements this fact is obvious, but even family portraits, boudoir, and pregnancy shots are desired because of the love these individuals wish to document.

So I love my job for many reasons, but today I am thankful that in the photography business LOVE is always in the air!

A Hidden Venue

I recently found a hidden spot in Atlanta for great relaxation, dates, and drum roll... photos. I'll give you a hint: inside the perimeter. Anyone know where?

A place where you can go in the middle of your busy day and sit at the base of the fountain or in the gazebo and time just seems to freeze. After dinner last week, I took some of my friends to the area and they were equally impressed with how hidden and tranquil the 'park' is. The general chaos and business of life in Atlanta surrounds it on every side, but inside you can breath deeply and listen to the sound of the water crashing down from the fountain.

Don't we all need a brief pause in our busy schedules?

Fun with Balloons!

So I was editing last night, and came across this little gem of a moment! Her name is Mary Claire and she is turning '1' with style! We blew up some balloons for her to enjoy, and she actually preferred them to her cake! (We know in a few years, this will change, duh)

Side note: Don't forget to vote here for last week's Favorite Image!

NEW WEEKLY PHOTO CONTEST for Groupon Shoots. VOTE TODAY!

One bite at a time...yesterday I mailed 26 picture disks to my Groupon customers. (How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. see below).

Now for something fun.
Since I am averaging about 15 shoots/week which comes to about 1,500 pictures (+2,200 photos for Saturday night weddings), I am going to start choosing my four favorite photos and asking YOU to vote on your favorite.
In creating my business, I desried to keep things simple. I like to think of my style as elegant simplicity.  I believe we are all created beautiful and my job is simply to capture you looking beautiful.
Because despite our flaws (wrinkles, love handles, age spots, frizzy hair, etc.) we are beautiful. And I know, because I am the one taking your pictures.
Now vote away!

Groupons Groupons Groupons! Atlanta Wedding and Portrait Photographer

Being the bargain shopper that I am, I emailed the owners of Groupon (Groupon is a deal-of-the-day website that is localized to major markets in the United States) to see if I could get them to promote my business and offer a "one day special" for me.

I had no idea if I could get a Groupon deal, but why not try, right? I photograph mostly weddings and thought getting a 'Groupon' deal would be a good way to get experience taking portraits.

On July 21 at 6am, all subscribers to the daily deals on Groupon were emailed about my special one day offer of 90% off a one hour photo session.

When 1,200 people had purchased the Groupon, the owners called me and asked if I wanted to place a cap on the number.  I laughed to myself and told them 2,000, as the day before I was just hoping for 500.

A few hours after our conversation, at 3:00pm on July 21st and the 2,000th person bought the Groupon package for a 1 hour photo session. SOLD OUT!

2,000!

And almost instantaneously the little bold number in parentheses next to the word "Inbox" said 700, my phone was ringing off the hook, and I didn't quite no where to begin. First, breath, I thought. I remembered my dad's advice: How do you eat an entire elephant?  One bite at a time.

Over the past two weeks, I have barely slept, eaten terribly, and sometimes cringe when I look at the numbers in my inbox going up, but I am loving all the incredible (and beautiful) people and families I have met during this process. What a blessing to have such great publicity and many people who entrust me to make them look good on camera:)

17 shoots down, 1,983 to go! One bite at a time:)

If you weren't ready, now you can be! The Kindle and Nook are reduced!

Summer time is HERE. Hello June 21 and summer solstice. Thank you for the longest day of the year and an excuse to 'waste' time reading...bc really, what are you going to do with all of that extra daylight? Thankfully, our tech-world has got some pretty cool things to help us get through our summer reading lists... i.g. the Kindle, Nook, and iPad.

I got SO excited today when I read this story about the new price reductions on the Amazon Kindle and the Barnes and Noble Nook. I have debated getting one of these simply because they are pretty pricey, and I would rather use Amazon to buy my $0.99 used copies of Pride and Prejudice. However, seeing these new numbers is tempting me toward one of these now faster than ever. I know friends who love them, because of the books, but also for the magazines, journals, and newspapers you can put on them.

Check them out, what are your opinions? I'm (read)y.

Coffee and Smart Water...

Do you ever start certain habits kind of blindly? I love Smart Water.  Which is kind of a big deal if you knew me and knew how much I DON'T drink water. No offense to H2O but it doesn't taste that great to me, and I would rather drink something that has a flavor and gives me some blood-flow (cough cough::coffee::). However, Smart Water may have won me over because I've now started this unconcious habit of downing about 4 bottles a day.

This is probably due to the genius advertising on their part by putting Jennifer Aniston as their spokes model... bc let's face it, who wouldn't want to drink something that maybe-might-possibly-bysomechance-kindof make you look like her? I want to be her friend.

So I'm a little healthier today (and for the past few weeks) because of my new obsession with Smart Water. Their spokes model and super-fun squeeze-bottles have won me over. I haven't completely replaced my coffee, nor will I EVER, but I'm pretty close to reducing it's domination over my blood stream. I think I'm putting the 'smart' in my Smart Water.

What are you thankful for?

Today is Friday and I think that can leave us all thankful for at least something. We can be thankful that Saturday isn't technically seen as a work-day, therefore we can slack-off or take-off at will. Or, if you usually work on Saturday's, like me (woo hoo wedding photographer), you can be thankful that you have something to do tomorrow that gives you a paycheck. Holler if you like getting paid!

This morning I made it a priority to sit down and write out the things I was thankful for. You may be thinking that my list was sophisticated and sentimental, and at parts it was...but I definitely wrote that I was thankful for coffee and the couch I was sitting on (because, let's face it... those are some things that hold us up when the going gets tough!). And that list (even the less-than-sopisticated-things) has allowed me to start out the day pretty darn cheerfully.

So make your list.

Now,

5 things...

Go.

The Hendersons | Destin Beach Family Photography

Today I'm blogging the images of one of my favorite families in the wide world. These are the Henderson's and they live up the street from me. I babysit for them a couple of days a week and you probably remember seeing their two girls in some past posts here and here. These kids are some of the most joy-filled and curious kids I know... and they have amazing parents that encourage them and love them through everything. They roll 6-deep over there, but no one's left out.

In May I was able to travel with them to San Destin, FL and help out with the kids. While we were down there the mom, Lacy, wanted me to capture some images of them all together at the beach (especially since it was their youngest, Breezy's, first time ever!!). She did some 'research' at the outlet malls earlier that day and got some great outfits for everyone. I love the way the yellow pops!

Thanks Lacy for being awesome and for having such a cute fam!
